Dawid, you Moegoe
The Windguru Star Rating has nothing to do with accuracy, it tells you when can go Kitesurfing !
One star = big kite please cause it's 10 -15 knots
Two star = getting better cause now it's 16 - 20 knots
Three star = now we really are having fun cause it's 21 knots plus.
A far better site is www.windreport.co.za - and it is Cape Town based.
It has a 'pro' version of Windguru which gives a far better indication of expected conditions.
This "modified wind" forecast includes the localised thermal land effects which amplify the southerly wind component of the standard Windguru NOAA global model.
It also has a heap of
Webcams, http://windreport.co.za/webcam_muizenberg.shtml
Tide tables , http://windreport.co.za/page_tideemail.shtml
Swell reports, http://windreport.co.za/page_swell.shtml
Surf reports, http://windreport.co.za/page_surf.shtml
And other weather info too.
The real value is being able to retrieve real time data from many live weather stations
Some of the services are available by cellphone SMS and WAP - unfortunately at a cost
There are also historical charts which you can check out after you have had a great surfski !
I am sure the owner would be happy to give you and your school exposure on the site too !
Please promote this great site !

February 18
Surfskischool
Good morning all you surfski Fanatics! I am looking here at the booking sheet and its already looking full for 9am! Probably cos Saturday was perfect Surfski conditions. "Smooth ocean", great waves, Awesome instructors (some would rather use the phrase hot I am told) and beautiful scenery.
As so many of you call and ask us what the conditions are going to be like for the weekend, we have decided to do an "educational" today. How to find, read and understand the weather conditions:
1.) Go to www.windguru.com
2.) Select South Africa, Then Muizenberg, or Cape Point (depending on what you want to know)
3.) See table below
Stuff to know:
If you click on the windspeed icon it changes from mph to km/h
The black arrow point in the direction the wind is going to blow.
The brighter the colours the more "hectic" the conditions are going to be…
The wave period is important to know about because the bigger the period the stronger (and bigger) the swell.
The Star rating is how sure Windguru think they are; their accuracy rating.
Stuff that you should know about:
1.) The Ocean Advanced class is starting up again. It is going to be hard core, so bring juice, gels and a sense of humour. You will be paddling for 2 hours, so prepare your mind and your butt appropriately. Nikki will be taking the class, so brace yourselves. BUT, it starts at 8am and not 730. You need your own ski for this one. Remember leashes, lifejackets and cell phone dry bags are compulsory… who knows where you will end up ?
2.) You can now join the first ever "Surfski club". It is called The Cape Town Surfski club (smart name hey?!) and its being run out of the FH Hobie club.
Why should you join?
• It is an awesome facility that you will have 24 hour access to. A shower and a family sun tan on the well kept grass. They will be giving you an access chip so getting into the club after your paddle will be possible
• It is going to become the central social paddling hub, where you can meet your paddling mates and head out for a training session and then afterwards shower and chill with a drink for the post paddle chill
• You will be able to register through CSA (and WP) this way. In other words, if you join the CTSC you will be eligible to do the Discovery Series as your CSA admin will be included.
• Another obvious bonus is the availability of a rack on the beach for your boat!
So for me, it's a no brainer! To join the forms are available from us and you cost is R870 per year (August to August), R360 for a rack (optional) and R300 for CSA (optional).
3.) We are on Race 6 of the Seadog series, if you haven't done one yet, do it! Its very chilled, "do-able" and loads of fun. It takes the slowest person on average 45 – 50 min. You can paddle for that amount of time if you manage to do a 9 or 10 class, and to the 8 am ers, you better get down there and experience a race!
4.) Remember we have special rates for families and a year of classes is also a cheaper option if you coming regularly. So check out the website for more details on this.
5.) NEW RATES from March: It had to happen sometime. We've been putting this off for 2 years now, but our maintenance costs on equipment and facilities has crept up a bit. Basically the rates are going up R10 per session. We will present the new rate plan next week.
Okay, thats it from us, we'll see you this Saturday?
