Saturday was another absolute classic day for paddling on Fish Hoek beach, the best surfski beach in the country.

If you're not convinced I can show you why. Go to the pic gallery on the site or go and check out the evidence here (copy/paste into your browser)

We started off the morning with some hard intervals and also a practical on shooting off a flare. Then we made our first attempt at Technique Video coaching. It was marginally successfull but a start at it anyway. The two OceanPaddler sessions had great conditions and really had some good cracks at catching waves.

The sessions are filling up fast so its a good idea to get your bookings in early.

ONE SHOT...
You know, I was having a moment just the other day thinking about us humans, and specifically about our relationships with each other and the work we do each day. I was musing about the universal tendency of labelling your job as a chore, something inevitable, a task that needs to be done and most generally a part of your life that doesn't define you. Then I thought about career chasing and salary pursuits and how many people will sacrifice most any part of their lives (family, time, location, talents, passions) while stalking that ever changing goal of a better paycheck or higher position; that station called "arriving" or "achieving". Or even worse, needing to live and just plain thankful for having a job no matter what it is. It's just the profoundest and most ironic state of living that we will "give up" the exact things we're trying to build a better life for. In Ecclesiastes the writer calls it "A chasing after the wind".

I realised that "this is it". This moment you're finding yourself in, this is your life, right now. And it's not coming around again. You only have One Go, One Chance, One Shot, so you'd better make the most of it. Why should you be doing something else to allow yourself the opportunity to do your passion and use your talents in your "time off". Who you are, your talents and passions, should be what you're doing ALL the time, not weekends only!

So let's do a reality check. It may be very worthwhile taking stock of what you're sacrificing in exchange for something you'll never really have.
