Another great weekend of weather and kick ass surfski action. Friday night marine series race was out of a picture book, wow! Nice to see so many of the ocean expert class progressing to the race with Tammy and Brendan doing their first race on their new skis! A great sight for me as a coach. I unfortunately was out the water after being sick during the week, hated sitting on the beach watching when the sea looks so awesome, would rather be out there.
Saturdays classes had a bit of a bump on the water but such a classic day, sun out warm water. Got to love Durban's warm water.
Glenwood High School hit Surfski
The heart of the Varsity College Surfskischool is to grow the sport at all levels. We have made ground in many areas having success with the Jeep Apparel surfski team in Durban and projects getting ladies involved with 'Paddle Like A Girl' outings.
We had a huge success with the Richards Bay High School coming down to the school last year and made me think over the Xmas break. Well I set a goal this year to start a little younger, get the youth involved this year. My aim was to get 3 local schools down over the course of the year.
The first of the 3 schools came down on Friday afternoon thanks to the help of their teacher Neil Evens. The boys were super pumped up, not used to so much energy in a class, so much fun, love their passion. We will be doing more classes with them over the next 3 weeks and hope to see some of them doing the winter series starting in May.
I also intend to do some classes with some Varsity College student in the near future thanks to our awesome relationship with our title sponsors.
